Chronic Cryptic Tonsillitis

 Chronic Cryptic Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is the almond shaped glands that are located on either side of narrow passage where the mouth and the throat join. Tonsils contain many crevices called “crypts”. For some patients, these crevices become full of white debris that has a foul odor. The debris is made up of bacteria, food particles, dried mucus and dead white cells. The debris is called tonsil stones or tonsillolith

Cryptic tonsillitis will come and go, although the removal of the tonsillolith will improve the condition.
Medications work only for a short period of time. The long term cure for cryptic tonsillitis is a tonsillectomy.
There are many types of tonsillitis. Chronic cryptic tonsillitis is one among them. Tonsils play a vital role in immune filter as they are responsible for filtering out the bacteria and germs that enter the body through nose and mouth.
These two are the most common ways through which the bacteria can enter the body.

Tonsils are constantly in touch with the germs and infections. As a result, they are always at the risk of getting infected any time. One such type of infection is chronic cryptic tonsillitis. It is caused when the food particles or any bacteria gets trapped in the folds of the tonsils causing an infection. Tonsils can be seen clearly when the mouth is open wide. Normal tonsils are pink in color but when there is infection in them they are yellow in color.

Effects of Chronic Cryptic Tonsillitis

Chronic cryptic tonsillitis is not a major health issue, but they can cause great inconvenience. They can result in sore throats and periodic inflammation of the entire throat area due to the stones that are lodged in the folds of the tonsils. This condition can create mild to severe halitosis which cannot be corrected with the help of traditional cleaning methods.

How to prevent Chronic Cryptic Tonsillitis

Antibiotics can be used to ease the inflammation and give them some time to heal. But if the disease is very chronic as it has trapped the bacteria in huge quantity then removal of the part is the only solution for curing it.

Diagnosis

To determine the main cause for the tonsil or throat infection, the doctor will take a small sample of fluid from the back of the throat with a gentle swab. A quick test can indicate if strep bacteria are present or if the infection is due to a virus.

If the test for strep throat is negative, the doctor may want to confirm this result by performing a 24-hour culture. In this test, the doctor will place a small sample of fluid from the back of your throat on a culture dish and leave it for 24 hours.

  8. When you have sore throat plus cold symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and coughing, the cause is most likely a virus. Viral infection of the tonsils usually goes away without treatment within 2 weeks. Thanks.

  9. So getting your tonsils removed should be a last resort because it leaves you more susceptible to bacteria right?

  11. Growing up, I remember my friends would have their tonsils removed and they ate ice cream to heal the process. Fortunately, I never had issues with my tonsils except for when I got sick and they would be sore from coughing. What’s the main cause of tonsilitis? Just happens?

  12. I suffer from tonsillitis every month or so, and it is quite an inconvenience. However, I don’t feel the need of removing it, unless the doctor tells me to do so.

I’ll reconsider should it feel not normal anymore. I’ll consult with my doctor first though.

  13. I also have a problem with tonsillitis, I even lay in the hospital due to illness, but not allowed to remove, all the same as above tonsils really take over all the “garbage”.

  14. I suffered from chronic cryptic tonsilitis as a child. I had what looked exactly like “craters” in my tonsils, in which food would get trapped over time. I always had awful smelling breath & once every couple months I would “cough-up” the contents of the craters. It looked like a large piece of white cottage cheese. I used to throw-up as a kid a lot because of it. I finally had my tonsils out as an adult, & although it was one of the worst surgeries I’ve ever had, I’ve never suffered from the gross infection curds or bad breath.
