  • Baxter live flu virus

The inadvertent dispatch of live avian flu to 18 countries by Illinois-based, Baxter International is what the Baxter live flu virus is all about. Baxter mixed their vaccines with the virus and somehow escaped under the radar of strict bio-safety laws designed to make such a mistake impossible. What seemed ominous is that a global epidemic of avian flu could have resulted from the cross contamination carried out. Thankfully, a major pandemic was averted when a lab that received the vaccine used ferrets and detected the cross contamination.

  • Basil cell carcinoma agent orange

Basil cell carcinomas are types of non-melanoma skin cancers and are fairly common. The cell layers between the epidermis and dermis is where they emerge, grow relatively slowly and are generally non-invasive in nature. Parts of the body like the ears, scalp and face that are exposed frequently to the sun is where basil cell carcinomas are found.

  • Barriers asthma control

There are many barriers to asthma control, a view endorsed by experts attending the annual meeting held by the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in Seattle. These barriers include culture; distrust of the medical field; genetic discrepancies; limited or poor access to adequate asthma care; unhealthy lifestyles; delayed asthma diagnosis, and more. The factor that contributes to disparities in asthma care is the lack of access medical care by vulnerable populations. Ignorance of asthma management; the high number of uninsured asthmatics; and insufficient or inadequate physician monitoring, add to the disparities.

  • Barking cough children

The most common symptoms of barking cough or ‘croup’ are hoarse-sounding coughs and rasping sounds during inhaling. Young, 6 month to 3-year old children are often affected by this condition. Inflammation, swelling and irritation owing to excess mucous presence in the bronchial tubes and trachea cause barking cough. Although medicines can treat barking cough easily, quick medical attention will have to be sought by parents if their children experience persistent fever along with the barking cough.

  • Bad breath caused by acid reflux

One of the more unpleasant factors causing bad breath is acid reflux. Pain during swallowing, sour taste in mouth, sore throat, belching, etc are some of the common symptoms. The foul odor attributed to indigestion is really the digestive system and stomach-produced acid. On reaching the oral cavity, the acid leads to bad breath acrid-smelling in nature.

  • Bactrim upper respiratory infection

The generic name “sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim” is better known as “Bactrim” – one of the leading brands used in the treatment of upper respiratory infection. Different types of bacterial infections can be treated with these antibiotic ingredients. In addition to treating upper respiratory infection, bactrim cam also treat ear infections; urinary tract infections; bronchitis; pneumocystic canii pneumonia and traveler’s diarrhea. However, for asthmatics; people with liver/kidney diseases; breast-feeding/pregnant mothers; people allergic to the 2 antibiotics in bactrim and those with folic acid deficiency, bactrim is not recommended.

  • Bactrim otitis media

In essence, Bactrim is an intravenously or orally-administered antibiotic. Bactrim otitis media treatment is recommended for pediatric patients with acute otitis media (middle ear infections) caused by susceptible strains of Streptococcus pneumonia and Haemophilus. In addition to acute otitis media, Bactrim is a medication that’s also effective for treating many other bacterial ailments, such as pneumonia; traveler’s diarrhea; urinary tract infections, chronic bronchitis and more. As Bactrim can eliminate strains of Haemophilus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, it is considered a highly effective medication.

  • Bacterial viral transformation

The process whereby naked DNA molecules are consumed (taken up) by bacterial cells is called bacterial viral transformation. Bacteria can be made to uptake specific DNA molecules when antibiotic selection techniques are coupled with this transformation. Bacteria are termed “competent” when they have the ability to uptake DNA. They are able to do so through the treatment of calcium chloride ions during their early phase of growth.

  • Bacterial versus viral bronchitis

Few people can distinguish between viral and bacterial bronchitis, although both cause bronchial ailments. However, there is indeed a difference between the two organisms in that while bacteria can live and multiply outside the human body, viruses are fragile and cannot survive outside ones body cells. Moreover, while viral bronchitis cannot be treated with antibiotics, bacterial bronchitis can and must be treated with them. Consult a doctor quickly if you cannot distinguish between these two types of bronchitis.
