A Pet Scan gives a detailed view of the growth and presence of the cancerous cells in lungs. In non small cells based on whether it looks thin and flat like fish scales or multiply uncontrollable, the type of cancer is determined. In small cells it looks like a small cell growth, a mix of small and large cells or a combined small cell carcinoma.
