According to the guidelines of the US National Asthma Education and Prevention Program, the recommended asthma assessment tool is spirometry or peak flow meter. The peak flow meter measures how well the air moves out of the lungs and gives a score or the peak flow number. The change in the number shows any improvement or deterioration of the asthmatic conditions of the patient.
