Bacteria can get trapped inside the sinuses when the nasal congestion related to the common cold and allergies doesn’t allow the sinuses to drain properly. This will result in bacterial sinusitis. A person with bacterial sinusitis may feel sicker and have facial pain and swelling. Fever may also occur.
