Even the best cough medicine may contain an ingredient or more that is addictive, leading to its abuse and misuse. One such ingredient is “codeine”, an opiate derivative of the opium plant. Given the narcotic potential of codeine, if consumed in excess, a number of people are now abusing and misusing cough mixtures containing this opiate. The sole purpose why most of these people do so is to achieve a “high”.
