Can emphysema lay dormant after you’ve quit smoking for 15 years and then get worse?

This is unlikely. If you had quit smoking 15 years ago, your lungs are probably healthy. Emphysema cannot lay dormant for that many years and suddenly get worse. You will show the symptoms if you have emphysema.
