If you have been smoking continuously for more than 20 years now, you may develop emphysema. Yet perplexing is the fact that most smokers' don't get it.
Emphysema is a progressive, chronic condition that just gets worse overtime. It cannot just go away. If you still smoke with emphysema you need to quit immediately as this will only make the condition worse.

This comes down to how soon you started smoking. Half of the people who have emphysema are over the age of 65. Other percentile are over the age of 45.
