When mononucleosis is left untreated it creates some complications. Among of the complications the Burkitt’s lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma are long term complications. Mono is a self limiting disease.

Mononucleosis can become chronic as the virus which causes mononucleosis once infects a person can’t be cured. The disease can be recovered but it remains in the body inactively. Periodically it can be reactive.
